Why a target matters
Students who set explicit GPA targets are more likely to plan their course load, schedule office hours, and manage time deliberately. The number itself matters less than having one to anchor against.
Common targets:
- 3.0: Most scholarship retention thresholds.
- 3.5: Dean's list at many schools.
- 3.7: Cum laude at many schools.
- 3.85: Magna cum laude at many schools.
- 3.5+ with strong science: Competitive pre-med profile.
- 3.7+: Competitive law school profile.
