CSU vs. UC GPA
Both UC and CSU use a-g GPA from 10th and 11th grade. The main differences:
- Honors weighting.CSU caps honors bonus at 8 semester courses (like UC). But CSU's rule for which courses qualify is sometimes more permissive, community college transfer courses count as honors at CSU more readily than at UC.
- Eligibility index.CSU combines your a-g GPA with SAT/ACT scores (where required) into an "eligibility index." UC dropped SAT/ACT requirements and is test-blind.
- Local admission area. CSU campuses give preference to students from their local service area. UC does not.
For application purposes, the GPA computation rules are similar enough that the UC calculator above produces a usable CSU estimate. Confirm the final number with the CSU's own GPA calculator before submitting.
